Description

The Network working group is an active group that meets three or four times a year to discuss the latest developments in Networking technologies and their associated hardware and software products, be they IBM or third party vendor, as well as highlighting other items of interest to users in the networking arena.

A typical meeting will consist of

• latest news and announcements from IBM
• vendor and user presentations on
• major developments
• exploitation of new features
• specific customisation
• etc., etc.
• exchange of information on problems
• hints and tips
• raising requirements

The primary audience is Network Systems Programmers although this is changing due to the shift in emphasis from mainframe to non mainframe technologies.

General Objectives

1. To encourage information exchange amongst Network users.
2. To act as a forum for IBM announcements and information on Networking and its related products, both IBM and third party
3. To act as the formal requirements submittal point for IBM and other vendors.
4. To encourage participation from third party vendors
5. To encourage active participation by members
6. To foster relationships with groups in related topics and from other countries
7. To encourage the development of Networking education programmes
8. To form subgroups as necessary to investigate specific areas of interest

Specific Objectives for 2004

1. To continue to increase membership participation (encourage contributions from members).
2. To update, publish and maintain a register of members products used and experience.
3. To encourage rarely attending member installations to attend more frequently or to ascertain why they do not.
4. To increase the number of meeting attendees and encourage a wider audience to cover the broad range of networking technologies available and in use by businesses today.
