Description

The IMS working group is an active part of the GSE organisation in the UK Region. We meet regularly to discuss the latest developments in IMS and related products, be they IBM or third party vendor, our own experiences and other items of interest to users of these products.

We also participate in the annual GSE UK Conference, providing a full 2-day stream of IMS sessions alongside other streams including DB2, CICS Transaction Server, WebSphere MQ and Large Systems.

We welcome all users of IMS, including those using CICS/DBCTL We would also welcome anyone who works with products which interface with IMS (e.g. DB2 and WebSphere MQ).

A typical meeting will consist of

• Latest news and announcements from IBM
• Vendor and user presentations on
:
• major developments
• exploitation of new features
• experiences
• Exchange of information on problems
• Structured discussion topics
• Hints and tips
• Discussion of requirements of IBM and possibly other vendors

Sessions at the GSE UK Conference may also include topics of multi-discipline interest.

The main audience consists of IMS Systems Programmers and Database Administrators, although there are sometimes topics of interest to IMS application developers.

General Objectives

1. To encourage information exchange amongst IMS TM, DB & DBCTL users
2. To act as a forum for IBM announcements and information on IMS and related products from both IBM and third party vendors
3. To act as the formal requirements submittal point for IBM and other vendors
4. To encourage participation from third party vendors
5. To encourage active participation by members
6. To foster relationships with groups in related topics and from other countries
7. To encourage the development of IMS education programmes
8. To form subgroups as necessary to investigate specific areas of interest

Specific Objectives for 2007

1. To increase membership participation (encourage contributions from members)
2. To participate in the GSE UK Conference with other GSE UK Working Groups.
3. To concentrate the Working Group's activities in the areas of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), HALDB and IMS Version 8 and 9 experiences.

Agendas and Minutes are also posted on our web site http://ims.gse.org.uk/. Presentation handouts will be made available by email from the original presenters (if willing to divulge email addresses) or from the Working Group chairman.

We would like to speak to anyone interested in joining the committee, particularly from user installations, as a fresh perspective is always welcome.
