In these economically turbulent times we all need to target our resources, both time and people, to get maximum benefit. We cannot afford to ignore the outside world, however, and it is still important to keep our people up to date with the latest changes and developments in the IT industry. GSE, as an independent association of companies run by its members for its members and with its close relationship to IBM and its partners, is in a unique position to provide quality, unbiased technical and management information to help its members achieve just that.

It is therefore my great pleasure, on behalf of the UK region of GSE, to invite you to participate in the GSE UK Conference 2008, organised by the GSE working groups. The GSE Conference offers an outstanding opportunity to obtain a significant amount of information in only two days of your time. We have gathered together a multitude of presentations in no less than twelve streams under the title “Be Recognized”, a theme which relates specifically to the Mainframe Technology Professional (MTP), administered by the BCS and supported by GSE through the Certification and Training Working Group. This is reflected in our opening keynote session from David Clark, the CEO of the BCS as well as the sessions within the Certification and Training stream.

Alongside the conference streams we will be running two full workshop streams, six half days. Of course there will also be our usual exhibition giving you the opportunity to discuss your specific problems and requirements with our sponsors and exhibitors. We are very grateful to our sponsors and exhibitors who enable us to keep the cost of the event to you, our members, at what we hope you agree is a very reasonable level.

I hope you will agree that we have put together an interesting and varied agenda that will meet the objective of maximising the use of your valuable time at a very reasonable cost. We look forward to welcoming you to Kenilworth in October.
