Abstract:

BCS MTP is the only independent certification scheme that enables mainframe technicians to certify their skills and capabilities throughout their career. These qualifications were developed following demand from major UK and US banks who required a structured exam path for their employees to assess ongoing development and to determine recruitment and promotion globally. These exams have seen strong growth and have received a warm welcome across the world since their launch in early 2007. This presentation will explain the origins, the progress so far, the international expansion and some of the future plans for BCS MTP. If you are interested in your career, this is a presentation worth watching.

David Laird: David is Technical Director for RSM Technology, a training company specializing in z/OS related software products. He has a Bsc in Computer Science from Strathclyde University (1972) and has worked with MVS (z/OS) since its introduction in the early 70s. In the 80s David worked as a Data Storage specialist for IBM and since then has carried out many consultancy assignments in this area. For the last 18 years he has been predominately occupied in the development and delivery of technical courses covering all aspects of z/OS related products. More recently David has been heavily involved in the development of the BCS MTP Certification that has been developed to give people working in the z/OS environment qualifications that are recognized worldwide

Pete Stevenson: Pete has been in IT since 1980, mostly in storage management. Starting out as a trainee on the mainframe, working his way through to becoming a senior technician then manager at JPMorgan Chase. He was heavily involved in their first deployment of SAN technology, as well as establishing enhanced disaster recovery processing using synchronous replication between two datacentres. Pete was chairman of the GSE Storage management working group through much of the 1990's. In 2005 he moved roles to become staff development manager at JPMC where he first identified the need for a certification program for mainframe technicians. This resulted in him being one of the initial architects of what has become the BCS MTP(tm), and establishing and chairing the GSE Training and Certification working group.
