Abstract:

IBM System z has experienced increased interest from both existing and new clients. They are seeing the value to their businesses from both the traditional strengths of the platform as well as the new value brought by the increased investments for new workloads, via specialty engines and major strides in compute intensive performance. They are seeing improvements in the ecosystem, through skills initiatives internally within IBM and externally, such as the Academic initiatives. However, there are always additional areas for focus and the purpose of this session is to discuss some of these areas and actions planned, but more importantly to seek the opinions and view points from GSE UK attendees on their impressions of inhibitors to growth. The format will be informal and interactive.

Mark Anzani is the Vice President of IBM System z Client Technical Support. He has the responsibility for enabling System z technology development and supporting Client projects for System z. He joined IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1983 and during his early years with the company worked in a variety of manufacturing and development positions within the large systems business. In 1998, Mark was named the Director of Program Management for zSeries Hardware Development, where he was responsible for the development and delivery of zSeries hardware product. In March of 2001, he was named Director of Integration and System Test for Servers and in July of 2002, he was named IBM Availability Executive for Wal-Mart. In January of 2003, Mark was appointed Vice President, Server and Storage System Test with the responsibility for testing hardware and some of the software associated with storage products and i, p, and zSeries servers.
