Hitachi has been developing, designing and delivering IBM Mainframe compatible storage for over 30 years and will continue so to do. This session will detail Hitachi's implementation of storage virtualisation and its relevance in the z/OS environment. The technical and compatibility details of the Universal Storage Platform will be presented as well as its implementations of tiered storage, universal replication, partitioning, performance, availability and security. Also included will be a view of USP future developments.
David Haslam is the UK Technical Director and as such has responsibility for the management and marketing of the wide portfolio of Hitachi Data Systems storage solutions be they Hitachi products or third party partner solutions. In this role, Haslam is responsible for implementing Hitachi Data Systems' strategy for the marketing and sales of its enterprise and mid-range RAID Storage Area Network (SAN), Network-Attached Storage (NAS) as well as Storage Area Management and Enterprise Management software products.
With over 30 years experience in IT and storage both as a user and a vendor Haslam's expertise includes, application design and development, systems design, advanced storage systems, storage network technologies as well as commercial and market analysis.
Prior to joining National Advanced Systems (predecessor of Hitachi Data Systems) in March 1986, Haslam had been employed at British Steel Corporation, Cummins Engines, GEC Computer Services and as a freelance lecturer for Will-Denn Resources all predominantly involved in systems programming and database administration. Since 1986 Haslam has had a variety of roles in the Enterprise Product Division including SE, Consultant, SE Manager and for the last 13 years in Product Management and Product Marketing, all focusing on storage and the application systems using that storage.
