Abstract:

In today's Data Center environments, transactions on z/OS may run on zIIP and zAAP processors, as well as general purpose processors. Utilizing these new processors may prove to help customers reduce Software charges. But, it is necessary to understand the "ups and downs" when implementing zIIPs and zAAPs.

In this presentation Norman Hollander will discuss some of the challenges to consider when implementing zIIPs and zAAPs. Some of the topics that will be presented are: Capacity Planning challenges, Performance challenges, and Accounting/Chargeback challenges.

Norman has been with CA since January 2004. He is currently the Director of Mainframe and Performance Technology in the Mainframe Business Unit. He recently was the Director of Product Management for the CA-SYSVIEW(r) Performance Solution. He is also an internationally recognized System z, z/Operating and z/Performance Specialist. Norman has been in Systems Programming and Information Technology Management for well over 3 decades, specializing in Operating Systems, Hardware Planning, Workload Manager, and Performance & Tuning. Prior to joining CA, he worked for Candle Corporation as a Senior Consultant in Performance and Monitoring Solutions; again, as a System/390, z/OS, and WLM specialist. He has spent many years in enterprise-wide performance and capacity planning for a large Utility Company, a large Financial Corporation, and a large Telecommunications Corporation. In addition to the performance and capacity planning responsibilities, Norman has been a Systems Programmer Manager, and a Project Manager for high-profile Data Center Projects.
