Session Speaker: Paul Fletcher (IBM)Session Chairman: Derek StorkeyWhen: Tuesday 28th October @ 12:00Where: Kenilworth 2 |

This presentation will clarify efficient VARCHAR positioning in DB2 data tables, its impact on logging and the use of DSN1COPY and image copy datasets. Paul will explain how the DB2 9 Reordered Row Format introduces a new way of holding DB2 table data pages that enhances performance where applications use VARCHAR fields. Reordered Row Format may benefit complex Java environments and business critical applications such as Siebel and SAP. Examples of Reordered Row format and its predecessor, Basic Row Format will be given and discussed along with a short tutorial on how to read the DB2 logs.
Despite his youthful good looks Paul has worked in IT for almost 30 years as a programmer and a widely-experienced DBA. Paul now leads DB2 for Z/OS customer beta programs in IBM's BetaWorks organisation.
