Abstract:

This session will discuss how CICS Tools can assist in modernising your applications. We will look at how CICS VT can be used to migrate legacy VSAM files to DB2 without changing the batch or on-line application programs. Why migrate to DB2? 24x7 data availability (batch online sharing), integration with new applications based on DB2 technology (online & e-business systems), running ad hoc queries & exploitation of database maintenance tools.

We will also look at how we can use CICS IA to get a better understanding of your applications. How CICS IA can identify application programs that could be deployed as Web Services and identify old COBOL/VS programs, assist in making your applications threadsafe

Paul has worked in System z CICS Technical Support teams at various companies ( not just IBM ) since 1990. gaining a large amount of experience in installing, customizing and rolling out base CICS and associated software tooling. Paul joined IBM in Jan 1998, working in their Outsourcing division and in Sept 2002 moved into their Software Group. Prior to joining IBM, Paul has worked for Freemans Mail Order ( Headingley ), Co-operative Wholesale Society and ICI C+FC ( Manchester ).
