An Introduction to Relational Database Concepts, and the DB2 Database for the mainframe. The Presentation will provide an overview of the DB2 Packaging and Architecture. The Presentation is targeted for Professionals with little or no understanding of Relational Databases and/or DB2, an will cover the principles that they need to know about DB2 including: storage concepts, Database Administration, the DBA role, Backup and Recovery, and Security.
Gareth Jones has over twenty years of IT experience, nineteen of them as a DB2 Systems Programmer and DBA. He worked for several European blue-chip companies, until joining IBM as a permanent employee in the year 2000. Gareth worked for several years for BetaWorks, managing beta programs for DB2 for z/OS and for DB2 Tools. In 2007 he joined the EMEA DB2 SWAT team, reporting to John Campbell and to the DB2 Development Laboratory in Silicon Valley. He has co-written a number of papers, including the red book "DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS - Powering the World's e-business Solutions", SG24-6257.
