Abstract:

This session provides an introduction to the concepts of removable media management and explains why this is an important part of enterprise backup solutions. It looks at the IBM solutions for removable media management including the virtualization of distributed tape libraries and drives. Products discussed include IBM Integrated Removable Media Manager for the Enterprise on System z (IRMM) which is the IBM solution for Distributed Systems, IBM Tape Manager for z/VM. and DFSMSrmm the IBM solution for z/OS. We will talk about an integration of these products via DFSMSrmm to achieve a consolidated Media Management solution across the enterprise.

Mike is the DFSMSrmm architect and has been responsible for the design since its inception. He has a background in computer operations, and many years experience of MVS systems programming and system design before being involved with DFSMSrmm. Mike works with the other DFSMS and tape hardware architects to ensure IBMs leadership in tape management solutions . Mike lives and works in the United Kingdom, together with a world-wide team across 4 countries and 5 locations. He is a regular presenter at SHARE and the IBM Storage Symposiums.
