Abstract:

Application, storage and recovery managers are often separate entities in a very complex IT management strategy devised to help improve productivity, decrease costs and manage the risks of doing business. These diverse activities and responsibilities are tracked back to how they deliver value to the organization as a whole. Value is measured in three specific ways. First, by how effectively a strategy takes a global view of IT assets (not just the individual entities of storage management, application management and recovery management); second, by how it improves availability across all applications, and finally, by how well it ensures continuous data protection regardless of location or business segment.

In this presentation we will take an in-depth look into the strategies and technologies implemented by application, storage and recovery managers to help address key challenges and deliver business value-such as mirroring, virtual tape systems, synchronous/asynchronous replication, SRDF, and batch applications. We will also explore how individuals in these roles can join together to present a unified continuity management plan that ensures success.

Rebecca is an exuberant and passionate speaker on the topics of enterprise backup and recovery. She regularly addresses many DR/BC related user organizations and enjoys sharing the benefits of her experience and exposure to a multitude of DR issues. Her experience and observations at hundreds of client companies have led her to formulate time-tested best practices that deliver proven business continuity results. She has spent her entire career in storage management and disaster recovery, and she is currently Senior Vice President of 21st Century Software.
