IBM manufactures and distributes storage systems products that range from small, manual tape drives to massive disk storage subsystems holding half a petabyte. This session will be a very quick overview of the disk, tape and virtualization products. At the end, you won't be an expert in any of these topics but you should have a much better idea of what is out there and where the industry is going.
Built on these hardware functions zOS provides a rich choice of access methods and data management functions. We will take a rapid trip through the most important of these and gain a high level understanding of what they can do and how they fit together.
Robert D. (Bob) Halem is a Senior Storage Consultant based at IBM's Storage Executive Briefing Centre at San Jose, California. Bob has been with IBM for over thirty-nine years and has had a varied range of job assignments and positions including programmer, programming manager, hardware product planner, market support representative, microcode development manager, and program manager. For the last fifteen years, he has served as a Storage Consultant in the Storage Systems Project Office and the Storage Systems Executive Briefing Center and is IBM Storage Systems Division representative to various international user groups including SHARE, GUIDE International (US), GUIDE/SHARE Europe, Australasian SHARE/GUIDE(InterAction), and IBM User Group Hong Kong.
Bob holds a Bachelors Degree in Maths from UCLA and a Master of Science degree in Computer Design from San Jose State University.
Scott Drummond is the Worldwide Program Director, Storage Networking, for the IBM Systems Group. Scott's career in Information Technology began in 1977, when he was an IBM customer doing applications and systems programming.
In 1982, he joined IBM and since has held a variety of technical and management positions including roles in product development, sales, business development and marketing. A frequent speaker in over 30 countries, Scott's subject area expertise includes distributed/mainframe storage and storage management, data sharing and Storage Networking (SANs and NAS).
Scott holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and a Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of Georgia
