FE: zAAP and zIIP: from theory to reality

Abstract:

In this presentation we'll describe a real life experience at a customer site where zAAP and zIIP have been installed following a Capacity Planning study performed in 2006. The following issues will be discussed: tools and techniques used to estimate the number of zAAP and zIIP needed, available SMF and RMF metrics, comparison of capacity planning estimates and measured results.

Danilo Gipponi has been involved in Service levels and Cost Accounting projects since 1986. After 9 years with SAS Institute and 5 years with BMC, in 2003 he founded EPV Technologies. He is involved in projects aimed at the performance optimisation of z/OS environments. He also performs periodical Capacity Planning activities at many customers sites in Italy. Danilo Gipponi has been involved in CMG-Italia activities since 1993. He has been president from 2001 to 2004 and is now responsible for International relationship.
