Auditing the Change Management Process on z/OS and integrating it with the Change Control System at EBS (Educational Building Society)
The EBS Building Society, as a mutual working for its clients, is very conscious of audit and compliance and this mandate is also foremost in the IT department. Senior management and auditors have applied automated procedures to guarantee system integrity, system security, change management and disaster recovery across enterprise servers, especially on the primary z/OS server. The very complexity of the definitions and processes that control z/OS images (-1, 0, +1) make this a difficult task. Add to that the ability to make changes to images dynamically, with no verification that static definitions are being kept synchronized, can lead to outages at IPL time and lost opportunity to perform upgrades. In a multi-image environment it’s easy for systems to fall out of sync, irrespective of installation best-practices. Gerry will discuss the process of change management and audit on their z/OS systems and sub-systems, the requirements and processes in pre-test needed for a successful IPL, and supplying auditors with automated assurances and reports on z/OS integrity.
Gerry has over 30 years experience on IBM Mainframe and Midrange platforms and he has an 11 year association with the EBS. He works as part of a small group of Technical Support specialists that deliver and maintain enterprise systems solutions across z/OS, z/VM and other platforms. This IT group is challenged with maintaining good Change Management practices across a broad range of distributed platforms with an IBM z890 Mainframe at its core.
