Abstract:

The WPS interpreter has been successfully implemented by hundreds of firms across the world. WP has recently increased the availability of the WPS Interpreter by making it available on the Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) hardware running z/Linux. The result of this has been to drive down the cost of processing SAS related workloads through the use of less expensive software and the utilisation of less expensive hardware. Several customers have now completed tests of the WPS Interpreter on their IFL installations and have reported significant financial gains and decreased processing times. This is the first time SAS related workloads have been able to run under IFL hardware. In this session Sam shall describe the WPS Interpreter, how it runs on series Z hardware including IFLs, how it processes SAS related workloads, and outline the installation of WPS on the new IFL hardware under Linux. Sam will review the technical steps needed to move or share workloads across the z/OS and z/Linux systems. Any firm with a cost saving agenda and interested in the financial benefits of WPS would find this session of benefit and are recommended to attend.

Sam started his career with off-shore engineering companies in Scotland and led the application of sub-sea robotics. He then joined an international computer firm in London where he worked with financial service clients. He then took a career break and completed an MBA at the City University. Following University he joined a company that provided specialist information to insurance companies based in Europe and USA. Sam then became a founder member of WP, the company based in Hampshire that has written the WPS product and is responsible for business development of the firm.
