Session Speaker: Alison Coughtrie (IBM)Session Chairman: Neil Price (TNT)When: Thursday 5th November @ 11:45Where: Indianapolis |

IMS Open Database offers a robust standards-based approach for accessing IMS databases from a growing number of strategic runtimes and platforms, which include z/OS(r), Linux(r) on System z(r), and Microsoft Windows(r). Java(tm) is the primary development language targeted for this support. In this session, we'll see how IMS 11 meets the challenge of modernizing IMS database access and application development by offering scalable, distributed and high-speed local access to IMS database resources. We'll review new application design frameworks and patterns, including JCA 1.5 (Java EE) and JDBC(tm), and the standards-based approach with Java Connector architecture, JDBC, SQL and DRDA. Finally we'll cover enhanced commands and user exits that simplify installation and system management.
Alison Coughtrie, from IBM Europe BetaWorks, Hursley, UK, is responsible for the IMS Quality Partnership Programs (QPPs) for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. During the QPP a small set of Customers implement future releases of IMS to validate the quality of the code prior to it being made generally available to the broader community. Alison has specialised in IMS over the past 25 years both as an IMS Customer and within IBM.
