BD: What SOA really means and how IMS fits in

Abstract:

No one can have failed to notice that Service Oriented Archictecture (SOA) has become the number one topic of interest in the IT Industry. But SOA means different things to different people, and its implications are often misunderstood. SOA is not just about technology. SOA is not about rewriting applications. SOA is as relevant to the System z platform as any other. In this session, Alan will discuss what SOA actually is, its terminology, the role of Legacy applications, and in particular, how IMS remains a major player in SOA solutions

Alan Cooper is an IMS Consultant in the IBM Software Business, and is based in Newcastle, UK. He has worked with IMS for 34 years, and has specialised in a broad range of aspects of IMS, including Performance, Fast Path, DBRC, Parallel Sysplex, e-business On Demand, and the new range of IBM's IMS Tools. Alan teaches IMS courses throughout Europe, and has written and contributed to several IMS Red Books. He features on the agenda of many IBM and GSE IMS-related technical conferences in Europe, assists with the IMS Early Support Programme, and travels widely to help customers working on the leading edge of IMS technology. His other technical interests include programming languages, and he is an enthusiastic champion of Java.
