AK: Writing CICS Apps without Affinities

Abstract:

Preparing your CICS configuration to run in a Sysplex environment requires more than just making changes to CICS and z/OS. Your applications must be examined in detail to understand whether or not they are "sysplex enabled". If not, what can be done to ensure that the services you are providing can run interrupted, and are available 24/7. This session will look at what constitutes an affinity, and what steps can be taken to remove them. In some cases, this may not be possible, so what fallback is there for those applications ?.

Peter Siddell has over 30 years experience in the IT industry, Working originally as an operator, then application programmer, he became a CICS Systems Programmer. He has worked with a number of vendors providing technical support for CICS based products. Joining IBM in 1999, he originally worked in the Hursley Services and Technology team, and his current role is that of a CICS Tools Technical Specialist, supporting IBM personnel worldwide in the implementation of the CICS Tools Portfolio.
