Abstract:

IPv6 is a great advance on IPv4 for TCP/IP network addressing. However, an efficient use of IPv6 requires an altered approach to that currently available for IPv4. This session will introduce the IPv6 addressing format and discuss why the apparently trivial task of checking an IPv6 address is fraught with pitfalls. Next, it will briefly cover System and Application design for IPv6. CICS TS 4.1 introduces full IPv6 support, and some of the SPI facilities will be described. Finally, the session will consider DNS lookup for IPv6 and how a CICS fix may be of interest.

Robert Harris used to be a CICS Systems Programmer before he joined IBM Hursley Park where he spent 20 years developing CICS before taking early retirement. Robert is an ex-IBM Master Inventor, has lots of filed Patents, and continues his strong interest in Intellectual Property by mentoring, giving confidential advice and submitting ideas to the UK IPO. Another area of interest is interacting with Chinese people, gained by being a remote Team Leader for work done in the IBM Beijing Lab (his Mandarin third tone is gradually becoming merely unintelligible). Robert can be contacted via gse@dfhexpert.eu and his web site of www.dfhexpert.eu will contain lots of interesting topics. Please connect with him on www.linkedin.com/in/dfhexpert
